Broken Glass Door: What Next?
Glass breakages are a common occurrence in the house. The
reasons could be due to carelessness or a small accident. If it is a large
slab, the work becomes particularly delicate and complicated and it is better
to contact a professional who can make a broken door glass repair. However, if it is a small glass or a window of normal size,
the repair becomes easier and affordable for everyone. You need some tools, a
minimum of manual skills and the right attention, and you can quickly repair
the window by yourself. It is important to always remember to wear work gloves and
protective goggles to avoid injury with glass or wood splinters.
How to proceed with the replacement
After finding a plate of the right size and quality at home
or in the shop, it's time to take action. Wear gloves and goggles and prepare
handy tools such as chisel, spatula, putty, hammer, and nails. First, you will have to remove and clean all the pieces of
broken glass, use a small brush to collect the biggest pieces and a vacuum
cleaner to collect the small fragments, the splinters, and the dust. Collect
all the pieces and store them safely in a cardboard box, taking care to also
remove the glass pieces stuck in the frame.
Clean and prepare the frame
Of course, it is important to evaluate well the type of
glass that you will replace. If it is a small window, you can detach the window
from the wall to work more quietly on a work surface. If you notice that the glass is made of two sheets of glass
divided by a shiny metal sheet, it means that it is double glazing and you will
have to act accordingly. So be careful because the double glazing does not all
have the same thickness. Use a chisel, sandpaper, and hammer to clean up the
frame from residues of glue and putty. By using hammer and chisel, you can calmly remove all traces
of the old stucco and clean the seat for the new glass. Proceed with caution to
avoid damaging the wood of the fixtures.
Place the new plate
After having eliminated all traces of glue and putty and
having removed any other pegs with pliers and impediments, it is time to
proceed with the positioning of the new plate. In the case of glasses, the work
is quite simple. Just put the glass of the right size along the tracks and
re-position the window. In the case of old interlocking glasses, form long and thin
stucco threads, apply them along the entire perimeter of the frame by pressing
with your fingers and making them adhere well to the surface.
Then insert the
glass very carefully by pressing the plate against the putty around the frame.
Then fix everything with some glass nails, pay close attention not to risk
ruining the glass. Fix other rolls of plaster around the glass to fix it to the
frame and completely cover the nails. Remove excess filler with a spatula.

not hesitate to call in a professional. If you want a repair or installation in
